But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God. Gen 6:8-9
The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty,
to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. Deuteronomy 28:12
Listen, O heavens, and I will speak; hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.
Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew,
like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.
I will proclaim the name of the LORD. Oh, praise the greatness of our God!
He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.
Deuteronomy 32:1-4

You may have noticed our name and wondered where we came up with it.  It originally was going to be the name of a craft business I was going to start.  We sat around trying to think of something interesting and "rainbarrel" came up.  Then the question was, "Whose Rainbarrel?".  The obvious answer came to me- NOAH'S.  Noah would probably have had something (a rainbarrel?)  to collect drinking water in and I am sure with all the rain, it was filled to overflowing! (can't you just picture it!)  So began "Noah's Rainbarrel".  The business never got started (maybe some day), but I felt it fitting to name our school after a righteous man who found favor and walked with the Lord (my prayer for my children), as well as a vessel filled to overflowing with "rain" and blessing  from the Lord.

I was a teacher in the public schools for 10 years.  I am certified in Special Education, General Education Nursery-6th grade, and Reading.  I love teaching and always knew that is what I would do for a career.  I also knew that the Lord had opened many doors for me throughout my life in this area.  I felt that  it was His desire, as well, that I was a teacher.
In 1994, my son, Caleb, was born.  How difficult it was for me to go back to work.  After his birth, all my priorities changed!  I continued teaching, but felt so frustrated with behaviors and attitudes of some of the students in my school.  In 1998, my daughter, Bailey was born.  I knew Caleb would soon be of school-age.  I was torn.
I really felt the Lord leading me in the direction of being a stay-at-home-mom and homeschooling.  It was probably one of the most difficult decisions I have made, however, it was also the best decision.  As I wrote my letter of resignation to my school district, I thought about all the wonderful things I had accomplished, the memories, the students I had, the friends I made, the things I learned. I cried....but as I sealed the letter, the peace that passes all understanding flooded (*Noah*) over me.  I knew I was being obedient and this was God's will for me.
In the summer of 1999, my wonderful and supportive husband built a classroom for us in the basement (pictures linked in INFO section).  It was something I needed not only to feel like I was still a teacher and have room for 10 years worth of stuff I purchased, but I planned on tutoring as well.
I guess I wrote all that to say....If you feel the Lord leading you to homeschool, do it.  He will honor your obedience.  We may all have different situations when it comes to experience, ideas, training or "classroom" setup, but the most important thing we have in common is a love for our children.  I may not be a "paid" teacher, but I am still a teacher.  It was, and still is, His desire.
