Tonight I leave all that I have known.  I go to fight for a cause which could not be a nobler one.  I am told that if we gain the victory, that freedom will be ours.  They say that we have started a revolution.  There are few things in life that mean more to me than freedom.  I want so much for you to be free.  I think of the children who would grow within your banks.  They would grow up knowing God as I do.  They also would raise up children and thus create a heritage, generation after generation of people who don’t just know who God is but who worship Him, who believe in Him.  Freedom, that is what I will fight for.  I will fight for you and yes even die for you if need be.   I have heard there are many men who believe the same as I do.  They also feel the cause is worth their dreams, their hopes, even their lives.  These men have written a document and signed it indicating their commitment to not only this freedom but also their commitment to do God’s will in their lives.  They too believe there should be a place to worship God without fear of government intervention.  They too believe that if we do what God has commanded in His word, that we will have a country where people respect each other, where God’s love is shown everywhere.   They call it revolution.
Know this now that if I die tomorrow that I will have died for you, but also know this, that if I live, I will live for the God who gives the very breath of life itself.  For in death I will be joined with Him, I know this because he died and is risen for me, yes death to me is also freedom.  I am leaving now but can’t help wonder that if this letter is found many years from now, if this nation will be as we have hoped.  If not, what will our dreams have purchased, what will hopes have gained….they would mean nothing.  The blood that was shed,  the lives lost would be meaningless unless our hope continues, with the burning desire for our cause, our revolution, our freedom, our independence.

Pray for our troops, working under great duress and in great danger, as they continue to carry out each mission and exercise with steadfast dedication and resolve. Pray for the safety of each one and for the encouragement of their families and loved ones.
It is for freedom that Christ
has set us free.
Galatians 5:1
When you allow the Lord to have complete control of your life, you suddenly discover a new-found liberty. Paul tells us where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. We are promised a freedom – freedom from worry, from anxiety, from fear, from doubt. Jesus is the one who gives us that liberty. But we must allow him to be Lord of our life. What happens is we keep on wanting to take back our old bondages. Instead of freedom in the Spirit, we look to our own weak and foolish nature for help. The results are predictable – we fall back in the same traps as before. Instead of freedom, we find chains. Instead of deliverance, we find problems. Instead of joy, we discover fear. Instead of liberty, we return to captivity. Christ came to see us free. But we must allow the Spirit to minister to us.

Freedom is certainly a relative term. We live in a free country and a man is free to say what he thinks – but he may want to consider the consequences of his words from his wife, his family, or his boss!
This year on the 4th of July,  as we honor our members of the Armed Services, let us examine what real freedom is all about. On Independence Day, I think it would be good to read what many of our American forefathers had to say on the subject of our nation.  Patrick Henry – "It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ!" John Quincy Adams – "The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: that it connected, in one indissoluble bond, the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity." Thomas Jefferson – "The reason that Christianity is the best friend of government is because Christianity is the only religion in the world that deals with the heart." John Adams – "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people...it is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." Abraham Lincoln – "My concern is not whether God is on our side. My great concern is to be on God’s side."
The reason America has been great is because of its Christian moral foundation. As we are losing that foundation, we see the fabric of our society deteriorating. Look to scripture which will teach us what real liberty is all about – freedom in Christ. On Independence Day, let us not only celebrate the freedom of our nation, but let us also celebrate the liberty in our soul. As John 8:36 promises us, "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
