I watched as with outstretched arms you reached for her, only one step away from you but still she fell.  You always helped her to stand until you realized that she must learn to stand on her own.  That is when she learned to walk.

You watch now with outstretched hands wishing to stop her from falling, hoping for the chance to help her to stand again.  Perhaps longing for the opportunity to steady her by holding her hand.  You reach for her but still she falls.

Now she walks to Me.  I reach out to her and see her fall and fall and fall.  I long to embrace her, to pick her up and hold her but still she falls.  I know she must get up and take those little steps, those tiny toddling steps to my outstretched arms.  I know she will.  The seeds you planted long ago will grow.  She will walk, she will fall, she will rise and I will embrace her.

We should always fear settling down in our Christian life and becoming stagnant! Growth is always on the agenda for the Christian. We are called ever to be more like Him, and we should never give up on that goal.
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord,
continue to live in him.
Colossians 2:6
Now here’s an important question: Are you further along in your walk with Christ today than you were when you first came to know Christ? Are you further along in your walk today than you were last year? Are you further along in your walk today than you were last month? Now occasionally we will have setbacks, but over the course of time our walk with God ought to be getting better, growing stronger.

Can you remember when you were a child? Can you remember back when you were 8, 9 or 10 years old? I remember that during that time of life I was looking to do basically one thing –– to grow up. I remember anticipating the future. I didn’t know how good I had it as a ten year old. Most ten year olds don’t know how good they have it. We always think the stage of life we are in is tough, until we get into the next stage. But I didn’t appreciate where I was in life. I was always looking for my next major birthday! I wanted to be 13, then 16, then 18, then 21, and then 25. Each date marked a milestone of maturity. Now I wish I could go back to 25!
When we think humorously about those times trying to grow up, we realize that one thing we took for granted was that we were going to grow up. We never thought we would not grow up, because growth is natural, isn’t it? If you eat, exercise, and stay healthy, then you will continue to grow. You’re destined to mature.
Now your life in Christ is very similar to that. You see, being born again is just the beginning of a new life in Christ. Now don’t get me wrong, being born again is probably the greatest gift God has ever given you. But is God not working today? Being born again is wonderful but it is only the beginning of a walk with God in which we should be maturing more and more and more. In other words, it’s a journey. And if you’ve know the Lord for twenty years, ten years, five years, even one year, you should be further along in your journey. You should be more mature than you were when you first came to know Christ. You should be growing. You’re not sinless but you should sin less. You try to grow in your professional life and in your personal life. Well you should certainly be trying to grow in your spiritual life.

ORIGINAL POETRY
GROWING IN CHRIST
FURTHER ALONG
   There is My Father
She looks around her with wide eyed wonder as she takes her first steps on shaky legs and uncertain feet, her father’s hand holding hers firmly.  The more she walks the more stable she gets until she lets go of his hand, and she falls.
The tears come as he lifts her to her feet and they start to walk again.  She is so stable now that she can almost walk alone but each time she tries, she falls.  She cries for her father to once again lift her up…

I walk through life on shaky legs with wide eyed wonder I see the world around me. The more I know the more stable I become until I let go and try to walk alone.  I fall and crying out to my Father I ask that he will once again lift me up.
I cannot walk without him.  He told me once that He will always be there for me. He will always help me to stand, when I fall, all I have to do is ask and he is beside me holding my hand. I continue to walk and as I do I look beside me and there is my strength, there is my stability…..there is my Father.
